About EP Water

EP water has a number of synonyms, including:

  • EP purified water
  • Pharmaceutical water
  • EP pharmaceutical water
  • Pharmaceutical purified water
  • pH.eur water
  • Water EP
  • EP H2O

EP water is a grade of water that has been produced to meet the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia (EP), an internationally-recognised standard whose specification guarantees a certain level of quality.  EP water is one of a number of Pharmacopoeia waters, including USP water (United States Pharmacopoeia), BP water (British Pharmacopoeia), and JP water (Japanese Pharmacopoeia).

Properties of EP Water

Each grade of water will differ slightly but all waters produced to these standards are very low in impurities, such as heavy metals, nitrates, chlorides, and sulphates, and will meet certain conductivity and pH specifications.

EP water has a conductivity of less than 5.1 microsiemens, nitrates of less than 0.2 ppm, heavy metals of less than 0.1 ppm, TVC of less than 100, chlorides of less than 70 ppm, sulphates of less than 250 ppm, pH between 5-8, residue on evaporation of less than 100 ppm, and it passes the oxidisable substances test.

EP water is recognised worldwide and has many applications including product testing, analytical work and manufacturing.  Many companies specify the use of EP water in their processes to ensure that a specific level of quality is adhered to, particularly where unwanted trace elements or minerals could affect the outcome.

How We Manufacture EP Water

When we manufacture EP water, we use deionised water as a feedstock in a twin pass reverse osmosis (RO) system.

RO is a type of ultrafiltration, and once the water is in this system, it’s continuously moving through the ring main and the storage tank. This means that it’s always passing through the RO and then an ultraviolet (UV) sterilisation stage. The water is then bottled, typically in 25L containers and 1,000L IBCs, or used in process. We also carry out weekly testing to ensure compliance with the current specifications for both EP and USP purified water.

Supplying EP Water

Reputable EP water suppliers may be accredited to certain quality and environmental standards such as ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 13485 for Medical Devices, and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Standard. These accreditations help to ensure the quality of the product and help to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

EP water supplier, ReAgent, has almost 50 years’ experience and industry leading chemical suppliers, full accreditation to the above standards, and is a recognised Investor in People. Buy EP water from ReAgent and know that you’re buying from someone you can trust.

ReAgent is pleased to be an approved EP water supplier to some of the major names in the pharmaceutical industry and as such, welcomes audits from existing and prospective customers. ReAgent tests its EP water in-house for chemical elements whilst microbiological testing is performed by a third party. Contact us to find out more.

In addition to being well-respected EP water suppliers, ReAgent offers a range of chemicals such as pH buffer solutions, conductivity standards, and instrument solutions.
