Deionised Water

Deionised (Deionized) Water Suppliers UK

Deionised water is water that has had almost all of its mineral ions removed, including calcium, sodium, iron, copper, and chloride. Deionised water is a type of demineralised water, which is a catch-all term for water that has had its minerals and contaminants removed, whether that’s by deionisation, reverse osmosis, or distillation.

As leading deionised water suppliers, DI water is the standard grade of water that we supply, and is suitable for most applications. We also offer ultrapure grade water, which undergoes additional testing for applications that require a higher degree of certification.

With almost 50 years as experienced chemical manufacturers, and as holders of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 13485 quality accreditations, all of our products are manufactured in accordance with strict quality standards. If you’re looking to buy deionised water UK with the best quality, give us a call today.

Production & Testing of Deionised Water

We make deionized water using an ion exchange process. The water passes through a twin-bed deionizer, which uses anionic and cationic resins to purify the water.

After the initial purification stage, the electrical conductivity will be less than 1 uS/cm, which is much lower than traditional distilled water. At this point, the water can be called deionised.

To further reduce impurities following deionisation, we pass the water through an ultraviolet sterilisation lamp and a 0.2 micron filter, which removes very small particles as well as bacteria.

This makes the water ultrapure – and you can also buy ultrapure water from ReAgent.

ReAgent are trusted deionised water suppliers in the UK, with almost 50 years of experience in the handling and distribution of chemicals. You can buy DI water from us in 25L containers, 1000L IBCs or bulk tankers. Alternatively, contact our expert sales team to talk about your bespoke requirements. Order can be placed online or by phone.

Deionised water is the standard quality water or general used grade that we produce. For many of the chemical solutions and chemical reagents we manufacture, we tend to use pharmacopoeia grade water (either USP purified water, USP water for injection, or EP purified water). If you have questions about which water best suits your needs, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Uses of Deionised Water

Often abbreviated as DI, deionized water is used for a range of applications. Most commonly, it is used in laboratory and pharmaceutical environments to prepare chemicals and mixtures. Deionised water is also used to test certain substances for specific compounds.

DI water is also used in:

  • Acid and alkaline batteries
  • Pressure testing new installations, such as oil and gas pipelines
  • Large scale heating and cooling systems
  • Flushing and topping up car cooling systems
  • Household detergents
  • Perfumes and other cosmetics

Is Deionised Water the Same as Distilled Water?

Distilled water and deionised water are the two most common types of purified water. However, there are distinct differences between them.

The difference is in how they’re treated and which impurities are removed. Deionisation can only remove inorganic compounds, like salts and minerals, while distillation removes minerals, heavy metals like mercury, organic matter like bacteria, and also ions. Because of this, distilled water generally has less impurities than deionised water.
