Hexane is a clear, colourless liquid alkaline primarily obtained through the refining of crude oils. At room temperature, they are liquids with a boiling point between 50o and 70o Celsius. Hexane contains a mixture of hydrocarbons with six carbon atoms. It has a smell similar to that of gasoline.

Hexane is toxic to humans if it is inhaled and can cause neurotoxicity. Acute exposure can cause numbness, dizziness, confusion, nausea and headaches. Long term exposure can have extreme adverse effects on humans. Handle with care and only in well ventilated areas.
